Robert Land Academy was founded in 1978 by Major G. Scott Bowman (retired). He is a direct descendant of Robert Land who was an early settler of the Niagara area and a man of significant achievements. The Academy was named after him in honour of his spirit of independent resourcefulness, courage and responsibility.

The Academy's faculty is comprised of caring and dedicated men and women many of whom hold advanced degrees from universities across North America and Europe. A full-time registered nurse, medical doctor, counsellor, sports physiotherapist and an educational psychologist are attached to the Academy to address students' needs. With a low student to staff ratio, the Academy provides a fully serviced community with 24-hour supervision.
