ROBERT LAND ACADEMY STUDENT IS MAYOR FOR A DAY

Robert Land Academy student Alex MacIntyre had the opportunity to be Mayor For a Day for the Township of West Lincoln on May 27, 2013.  Grade 12 students attending South Lincoln High, Smithville District Christian High, and Robert Land Academy were invited to submit an essay sharing their vision for the Township of West Lincoln over the next 25 years.  "My goal was to introduce our local secondary students to local government and make local government week come alive through the eyes and ears of the Mayor's Office", says Mayor Douglas Joyner.

Selected as the winner of the First Annual "Would you like to be Mayor for the Day?" contest which was initiated by Mayor Joyner, Alex's submission entitled "Where Will the Wind Take Us?" commented on the strongly debated issue of introducing wind turbines to the landscape of West Lincoln.  By having his essay selected as the winning submission, Alex spent a full day working along side Mayor Joyner and other senior staff at Town Hall, ending the day by attending the evening Township Council Meeting in Smithville.

Alex is in his graduating year at Robert Land Academy, a private boys military school located in West Lincoln.  Alex plans to attend the University of Western Ontario in the Fall.
